If you have a wine desire of any specification, make your way to La Cantinetta, a haven located centrally between Piazza della Signoria and Santa Croce.

This vino mecca extends not only 5% discount to students (!) but charming and helpful suggestions from the shops' young and cosmopolitan owner, Viola.

Tuscan by birth, Viola has realised her dream of owning a wine boutique and drawing on her extensive travel experience, she keeps her place well stocked with something to wet every pallet.

The delicious tipples hail from regions dispersed all over Italia, yet especially from homeland Toscana. With bottles to suit every budget ranging from 7-350La Cantinetta is the ideal destination to purchase a cheapcheerful and pre-chilled bottle of white to accompany a dinner party or for visiting parents to pick up a special souvenir Super Tuscan vintage.

Not a wine fan? You're in the wrong country for starters, but also fortunate in that Viola sells typical Italian intoxicating liquors such as Grappa and Limoncello and a whole host of other things besides. As of October 2006, tasting afternoons will commence and will provide the perfect opportunity to indulge in the gastronomic treats also available to buy; specialty pastas and the like, all sourced locally. Just remember to grab the chance to wash it down with a glassful of liquid heaven.

Whatever you want, Viola will try to accommodate your every need. If you can't find what you're looking for, ask! She can source specific wines for individuals, and can also ship abroad if you don't want the hassle of lugging around heavy bottles at the airport.

La Cantinetta is a rare gem-welcoming, friendly and of high quality. A real cork'er (pardon the pun)
