Classic and Modern Theatre, Music and Dance

If you love performance arts, Florence won't let you down. In addition to to auditoriums and centers playing national and international shows, it actually has one of the highest numbers of theaters per inhabitant in Italy!

Teatro Puccini

Official website
Via delle Cascine, 41
This is one of our favorite theaters. The program is brilliant, and the best comedic Italian actors perform here. There's only problem for the language-challenged: almost all shows are in Italian.

Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino | Online booking

Official website
A year-long arts festival happening at several theaters around town, including the Teatro Communale, one of the world's best for classical music! The season's program includes operas, ballets and concerts. Seeing at least one of there performances is a must while in Florence.

Teatro Verdi | Online booking

Via Ghibellina, 99R

Teatro Verdi was founded in September 1854 by Girolamo Pagliano. Today, as throughout its 150 years, the theater presents a program which includes various performing arts in addition to housing ORT (Orchestra della Toscana)'s classical music concerts: theater, opera, operetta, ballet, pop and jazz concerts, film premières and conventions.

Teatro della Pergola | Online booking

Official website
Via della Pergola 12/32
Interesting national and international shows have been playing here for more than 350 years. The theater is an historic opera house - the oldest in Italy - but is mostly know today for its drama productions.

Teatro di Rifredi | Online booking

Official website

Via Vittorio Emanuele II, 303
This small theater is in the outskirts of town, and the shows are mostly for Italian spectators. If you are really interested in Italian culture or live in the surrounding area, this is the place for an excellent soirée!

Flog Auditorium

Via Michele Mercati, 24

Flog is a sort of culture center, just outside the city center, with a varied, somewhat eccentric, program. If you like underground culture (and music), this is a nice place to spend interesting rock, ska, alternative, multicultural, reggae, patchanka, and gay nights.

Compagnia Teatrale Chille de la Balanza

Via di San Salvi, 12, pavillion 16

Founded in Naples - which makes them even more interesting - this theater company has not only alternative theatre but dance, music, art exhibitions and cinema, as well!

Tuscany Hall (ex OBIhall) | Online booking

Via Fabrizio De André, on the corner of Lungarno Aldo Moro

Probably the most modern theater in Florence, it hosts every kind of event you can imagine: jazz, pop, rock, dance, operetta, political, religious, fairs, cabaret, and that's not all.

Teatro Cantiere Florida | Online booking

Via Pisana, 111r (on the corner of Via di Soffiano)

Part of a fusion between three innovative Italian theaters: Fontanateatro (Milan), Teatro dell'Arca (Bologna-Forlì), and Cantiere Florida (Firenze). Interesting artistic and educational programs.

Teatro Metastasio

Via B. Cairoli, 59, Prato

A company made up of the four most important theatres in Prato (a suburb of Florence). Very interesting programs with top quality performers from Italy and around the world.
