EXHIBITIONS IN FLORENCE
MAGGIO
FIORENTINO
Music has played a very important part in the artistic life of
Florence; the very first opera was in fact created here at the
end of the 16th century, based on the theories and the experiences
of the Camerata dei Bardi.
The temple of Florentine music today is the Teatro Comunale, home
of the Maggio Musicale, which, like its twinned city Salzburg -
and also Bayreuth - holds the oldest and most important Festival
in Europe, further supported by concert and opera seasons of the
highest quality. |

FABBRICA
EUROPA

before in Italy, a 'cantiere' able to host and confront the various

FLORENCE
GIFT MARKT
Mainly pastels, restful and marine-like pale greens and blues,
much blue, cobalt or periwinkle, but also lacquer reds and solar
oranges; age-old materials like glass and alabaster reinterpreted
with unusual modernity. Many ethnic ideas: candles - combining
exotic fragrances and shapes, the humorous and casual object alongside
of the large eternal pieces of the fine crafts sharing a bond of
a quest for originality that public wants more today than ever
before. This is the snapshot of the last edition of the Florence
Gift Mart.

WE
FLORENTINES GUELPHS AND GHIBELLINES
A series of events, taking place in various stages, has the aim
of rediscovering the historical period between 1215 and 1350, when
the city of Florence was protagonist of the diatribe between Guelphs
and Ghibellines. Like in a dream, Medieval Florence. Florence divided
between Guelphs (supporters of the Pope) and Ghibellines (supporters
of the emperor), between blacks and whites, (a feud between the
Donati and Cerchi families), and between right and left. Florence
returns to the splendor of what it was between 1215 and 1350. A
Florence of a thousand and one controversies, battles, and factions,
but rich in fascination, prolific in the fields of art and architecture. |

| ... Giorgio La Pira was the first Mayor of Florence to
sign a Sister City Agreement in 1954. He firmly believed that
it was an important instrument to promote world peace. Reims became
thus Florence’s first Sister City. |
