The Florence Academy of Art was founded in 1991 by Daniel Graves to provide the highest level of instruction in classical drawing, painting and sculpture.

Graves' vision of the Academy is its potential to train a select group of highly skilled Realist painters and sculptors.

His philosophy, which underlies the Academy's curriculum and method of instruction, demands a return to discipline in art, to canons of beauty, and to the direct study of nature and the Old Masters as the foundation for great painting and sculpture. Under his direction, the Academy is a source of stimulation and healthy competition, in which an internationally varied group of students receives training from professional painters of different nationalities, in a city renowned for its artistic past.

There is an essay by Daniel Graves on art, philosophy and teaching that can be downloaded as a PDF file by clicking here

Montelupo Fiorentino Pottery School – member of “Empolese-Valdelsa Development Agency” – is a vocational training centre characterized by high level teaching methods and practical approach.

Montelupo Fiorentino Pottery School boasts a 25 years experience in the pottery world and can offer a high level training, thanks to qualified school management and teaching staff: cooperation with University Depts and manufacturing units ensure the transmission of all the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary for keeping alive an art otherwise dying out.

The School differs from the “classical” art institute or Academy, aiming to more technical and practical results. The main users of the courses are in fact students without a specific experience in this world.

The teaching method, consisting in a profitable match of theory and practice, has been gradually tuned by the years, such as the bibliographic material on the subject which is internally created and printed. Courses mainly aim to make students completely able to manage this wonderful art in all its forms and autonomously.

The school with about 2000 square meters, is divided in a very equipped laboratory, a drawing room, a didactical multi-media room and a show room. In the laboratory there’s the place for 15 potter’s wheels and 20 painters.

Academy presentation available only in Italian in the website:
